And now Ross has landed his first major role since quitting Hollyoaks, in the second series of hit Channel 5 drama, The Good Ship Murder.

The Sun confirmed this week that the show, which first aired last year, will return for two more series and a Christmas special.

Former Coronation Street stars Shayne Ward and Catherine Tyldesley will resume their roles as cabaret singer turned detective Jack Grayling and ambitious First Officer Kate Woods.

Brookside legend and Corrie star Claire Sweeney will also be back as Cruise Director Beverley Carnell.

Meanwhile Ross will join the cast as new character Colin Smallwood, and the series will also see a host of guest stars coming along for the voyage.

Ross had dropped a hint at his new role in an Instagram post on April 10.

Wearing a dark blue shirt, he beamed for the camera and wrote alongside it: "Appreciation post! I’m feeling so overwhelmed by all the love and support pouring in! You guys have really helped to anchor me as the tide turns and I bid farewell to Hollyoaks.

"But fear not, I’m about to set sai to an exciting new project. Your endless support means the world to me!

"Can’t spill all the beans just yet, but trust me, it’s going to be EPIC!"

The Good Ship Murder's second series will see Jack and Kate team up once again to solve murder mysteries against the backdrop of the sparkling Mediterranean.

Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor, Drama, at Channel 5, commented on the series' return: "Greg [Barnett] and I are excited for these new tales on The Good Ship Murder.

"The blend of music, mystery, and beautiful locations was a winning formula that our viewers loved in series one, and we’re excited to be working with Clapperboard again to bring this series back”.

Mike Benson, Managing Director of Clapperboard, shared his enthusiasm, adding: “Series one was something of a journey - or mid-price cruise - into the unknown… not least trying to film a drama on a cruise ship with 6000 holidaymakers heading to eight different countries!

"However, we were delighted with how the concept found an audience and are thrilled to be making two more series packed with sun, show tunes and subterfuge.”
