Many homeowners are in the process of revamping their outdoor space ahead of warmer and brighter days.

It can be tricky to decide what the primary function of a small space will be throughout the summer months.

However, an expert has revealed tips that mean there is no need to compromise on whether it's used for gardening or socializing.

Jamie Robinson has gained a wealth of knowledge of outdoor design trends in his role as Installation Manager at Value Doors.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, he shared the clever tricks that homeowners can use to transform their outdoor oasis.

GREEN FINGERS

Robinson said greenery adds to the aesthetic appeal of any outdoor area and doesn’t require much floor space.

“Small balconies benefit from the implementation of slimline furniture or benches which can also double as storage units,” he said.

“I recommend incorporating greenery, like potted plants and vertical gardens, to inject a sense of charm without taking up too much valuable floor space.

“Privacy screens and trellises with climbing plants will contribute to the creation of a cozy exterior atmosphere.”

SUPERB STORAGE

The home installation expert recommended investing in garden furniture that can be used for seating and storage.

Alternatively, he said they should be able to be easily stored when not in use.

“I suggest maximizing your small patio or balcony space by introducing multi-functional furniture, like folding tables and chairs,” he said.

Light colors and mirrors work to create the illusion of a larger space.

“These items are designed to make the most out of an area without overcrowding it.

“Take advantage of any vertical space you have by adding hanging planters or shelves for decor and storage.”

BIGGER AND BRIGHTER

“Light colors and mirrors work to create the illusion of a larger space, so go as bright and visually engaging as possible when planning your garden layout,” Robinson said.

“Strategic lighting from string lights or lanterns will contribute to the ambiance of your outdoor space, giving guests the impression of a much larger area.”

A steel-framed outdoor mirror is available for $95.99 at Walmart.

According to the manufacturer, the decorative mirror can be “easily mounted” onto walls and is ideal for reflecting light into dark areas.

How to make your backyard a little paradise

Houna Bech is an interior designer and founder of the style blog With Houna.

She revealed to The U.S. Sun five tips for transforming a drab outdoor space into a “sensory-rich little paradise.”

  1. Embrace nature

“Use your landscaping, trees, flowers, and organic environment as your muse,” she said.

2. Bring the inside out

“Repeat color palettes, textures, and materials so the transition between indoors and out is seamless,” she said.

3. Create zones for specific purposes

“I might design a luxurious cabana with plush loungers and vanities for alfresco makeup sessions with my girlfriends,” she said.

4. Prioritize comfort

“I'm talking cloud-like sectionals, upholstered daybeds, and oversized weather-resistant poufs you can really envelop yourself in,” she said.

5. Get creative

“Finally, turn your entire outdoor area into an artistic installation,” Bech said.

Outdoor string lights can also be bought at the store for $16.99.

“I bought one set and loved them so much I decided to double up,” one customer said.

“So cute for the backyard- really a vibe reset. I love the clips and they look great outlining the yard.”

“These lights completely transformed the look of our back patio,” another said.
