Heatley hit-and-run: Young motorcyclist killed outside school as driver flees the scene before dumping car

A young dirt bike rider has been killed in an alleged hit-and-run near a school with the occupants of the car fleeing the scene before dumping their vehicle.

A dark Holden Commodore and the dirt bike were travelling in opposite directions before the collision unfolded on Dalrymple Service Road in Heatley, Townsville, around 4.40pm on Tuesday.

The dirt bike rider, a 19-year-old man from Vincent, suffered critical injuries and was transported to hospital where he was declared dead.

The alleged hit-and-run occurred about 4.40pm, with occupants of a Holden Commodore fleeing the scene (pictured a stock photo of a Queensland ambulance)

Police allege that after the crash, the occupants fled the scene in the Commodore.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Marcel Street, in Kirwan.

Investigations looking for the people in the Commodore are ongoing.  

Police are urging for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed the incident or who might have dashcam or CCTV footage.
