Early Monday morning, April 22, police in Detroit Lakes, Michigan investigated a burglary call to 911. And when they arrived, the person they arrested — according to CBS News and USA Today — was Democratic State Sen. Nicole Mitchell.

USA Today's Anthony Robledo reports that Mitchell "was booked at Becker County Jail" but has not been formally charged.

According to CBS News' Stephen Swanson, "Officers were called at about 4:45 a.m. to a residence off Granger Road and Long Avenue after the homeowner called 911 to report a burglary in progress. Police say the suspect, 49-year-old Sen. Nicole Mitchell, DFL-Woodbury, was found inside and was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary."

A spokesperson for the Senate DFL Caucus in Minnesota told CBS News they were "aware of the situation" but would not comment beyond that.

Robledo notes that when police arrived at the home in Detroit Lakes, "officers found a woman inside" who " police later identified as (State Sen.) Mitchell."

According to Robledo, "The Becker County Attorney's Office will decide whether to pursue the charges. County property tax records show that Mitchell’s stepmother and her late father lived on the block where the alleged burglary occurred in 2022, the Star Tribune reported.
