The character - played by Peter Ash - uses a wheelchair and requires the assistance of a carer in order to fulfill his daily needs.

Paul has also found comfort in pre-recording elements of his voice on his tablet for when he can no longer speak himself.

Having landed a radio interview to speak about his condition and publicise MND - the chat catches the attention that leaves his mother Bernie horrified.

Having heard Paul on the radio, a man named Denny tracks down Bernie to ask about him.

It is soon revealed that Denny is in fact Paul's father and he wants to see him.

Denny used to beat Paul as a child and has had nothing to do with him and Gemma for years.

Shocked by his arrival, Bernie tells him that Paul is dead and the interview was pre-recorded.

However, Denny does not believe her and soon heads up to Paul's flat where he sees his 'dead' son very much alive.

Paul later agrees to spend time with Denny and the duo watch a film together.

Denny nips out for ice cream leaving Paul alone in the flat which results in potentially deathly consequences.

He soon falls into a scary state and when Denny returns, Paul is barely conscious.
