A GRANDMA who pocketed a whopping £250,000 in lotto prize money said she blanked when People's Postcode Lottery told her about the win.

Evelyn Evans, 73, was so excited she'd won the Postcode Lottery that she forgot to ask how much the prize money was.

Evelyn, from Alcester in Warwickshire, took home a quarter of the £1million prize money due to her having two tickets - but had no clue about the amount when she won.

She was one of three lucky neighbours to get the jackpot when their postcode was picked for the weekly Millionaire Street draw on April 20.

But when lotto officials phoned her to tell her the great news, she completely blanked out and forgot to ask how much she had actually won.

She said: "I didn’t even ask how much I’d won when the Postcode Lottery phoned to say they were coming to my door and that I’d won a prize.

“It’s just mind-blowing. To think your postcode does actually come up when you least expect it.

“It’s been absolutely unforgettable. I’ve never ever thought I’d win such a big amount.”

Evelyn also revealed that her son Craig scolded her for the reaction and not asking about the prize money.

“My son scolded me for not asking," she said.

But the bitterness faded after Craig witnessed her mum getting an eye-watering £250,000 cheque.

He is now trying to get her mum a brand new TV with the prize money.

Ex-lorry driver Stephen Schiltz nearly lost out on £1m lottery win after forgetting where he bought his ticket

Although Evelyn says her trusty TV works absolutely fine, she is open to the idea of upgrading to a new one.

Evelyn said: "My TV works perfectly fine but yes, I guess I could get a new telly."

But more than a TV, what the grandma really wants to splash her cash on is a huge family vacation with her 10 grandchildren.

She said: "I’ll take all the family away on holiday and I’m going to let them decide where we go.

"With eight grandchildren and two honorary grandchildren, it’ll be quite the family affair. I’ll just take them all-inclusive, and they can do what they want."

Evelyn revealed she wants to go to the Norwegian Fjords in Scandinavia to experience the Northern Lights next year.

She added: "I think my friend and I could go to the Norwegian Fjords next year.

“It would be something else to see the Northern Lights, that’s on my bucket list – so I’ll tick that one off."

How People's Postcode Lottery works

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £12 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day.

People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

A minimum of 33 per cent from each ticket goes to charity.

Every Saturday, £1million will be shared by one postcode as part of the lottery’s Millionaire Street prize.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than £1.2billion for thousands of charities and local good causes.

This prize was promoted on behalf of Postcode Animal Trust which supports organisations including Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, PDSA and Medical Detection Dogs.

A humble Evelyn said she has no intention of giving up her work anytime soon.

Despite the windfall, she intends on staying in her role as a Military Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) specialist, sourcing spare parts for military helicopters.

She said: "I love what I do. I’ve always worked, they’ll be carrying me off in a box and I’ll still be typing on the computer, ringing a customer, or sending an email."

It comes as a lotto jackpot winner scooped a jaw-dropping £100,000 - and so did all her neighbours thanks to a £12 raffle.

Anne, from Heald Green, Greater Manchester, believes she lives on the luckiest street in the UK after landing the life-changing windfall.

In March this year, another Postcode Lottery winner revealed that while she had won a £145,000 jackpot her dad only got £2,000 after a "strange" week.

It comes as a couple who won £100,000 on the People's Postcode Lottery were just days away from a decision that would have left them with nothing.
