Red Eye kicked off with a bang but was son left falling flat amongst those who had chosen to tune in to the new Sunday night drama.

In the opening episode, Matthew Nolan, played by Richard, could be seen injured in Beijing, China.

Unclear as to what had occurred, he was next seen back in the UK.

A somewhat baffling plot, within moments he was then also seen being escorted into a separate room in the UK airport after he landed and was accused of cold-blooded murder.

It was alleged that he had killed a woman after her body was found in the wreckage of his car.

Adamant that he was an evil killer, he was ordered to fly back to China in order to be brought to justice.

Upon being questioned, a flurry of fans were left calling out a glaring blunder that left them wanting to switch off as they struggled to become invested.

They were confused by the fact that Matthew had no lawyer present and that he wasn't allowed to make any calls home before he was instructed to get back on the plane to China.

He then attempted to escape as he insisted to fellow airport passengers that he was being made to go against his will and being denied any legal rights.

Lashing out at the show online, one fan said: : “Border Force may have the power of detention but they don’t have the investigative powers for murder.

"And they and the foreign office certainly can’t force him to return to China. They certainly can’t extradite him in a few hours. Pure bulls**t.”

Another added: “The lack of any legal credibility in the plot of #RedEye is making it hard to enjoy."

A third did not take too kindly as they raged: “It might be fiction, but it would have been good if they made it slightly believable. A load of c**p so far."

Before a fourth penned:  “Much as I love Richard Armitage, this is absolute BS. He hasn't even had a lawyer.”

Speaking about getting involved with the drama, Richard told Digital Spy about his role: "I started to look at it and I thought there's no mention of a wife, there's no mention of a family.

"He talks about his job a lot.

"Normally, I would write this whole biography for the character, but I just thought actually, it's more interesting to me to really not know who he is.

"There are moments where you start to think he's a bit more knowing than he's letting on and in his desire to keep his reputation intact, because he believes he's innocent, but he starts to doubt himself and he's starting to wonder what were they doing in Beijing?

Red Eye was filmed in various locations in London such as Stansted Airport, streets in London and Liverpool Street Station.
