I transformed my small balcony – my DIY privacy screen made all the difference, I now have a more peaceful view
A DIY expert has shared how she transformed her small balcony into an outdoor oasis.
A simple home project granted her some much-needed privacy.
Dalia (@diydalia) shared her home transformation in a viral TikTok video.
The DIY enthusiast regularly shares home project ideas on her TikTok and YouTube.
She explained that she wanted to bolster privacy while she was out lounging on her balcony but wasn't satisfied with any of the options she found.
Instead of settling, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

First, she explained she had to take some measurements of her balcony.
Once the exact dimensions of her balcony were in, she headed off to Home Depot to gather lumber and supplies.
After picking out one by three and one by four wood, she lugged them home and got started on sanding the pieces down.
Next, she marked off where the wood pieces would go to cover her existing railing bars.

Once the indicators were in place, she added wood glue to the back of the pieces and assembled the slats, placing the shorter wood pieces over two long ones placed horizontally.
Once the shorter slats were in, she glued in another piece over the top and bottom of the railing cover, sealing in her hard work to prevent splinters and damage.
While some viewers criticized how much space was between her fence, she explained she built it according to her preference.
"Maybe if the boards were closer it would afford some privacy," said one commenter.
"Too widely spaced and too much work to achieve a minimal privacy increase."
Dalia, however, felt that her homemade fence was just right.

"I still wanted light to come in so it was perfect for me," she replied.
The magic of her home project, she said, was that it is easily customizable to suit your needs.
Dalia broke down every step of her privacy fence tutorial in a full YouTube video.
"You could easily put them closer if it suited you," she said.
To secure her wooden privacy screen to her balcony, she used several zip ties to connect the plank to her existing railing.
Dalia added string lights to jazz up her patio and create a cozy environment at night.
"I now have some more privacy and a more natural, peaceful view," she said.
