Man charged with murder after woman in her 50s found dead at luxury five star hotel where England’s rugby team train

He was also charged with controlling and coercive behaviour after the body was discovered a week ago

A MAN has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in a luxury five-star hotel.

The body of a victim, in her 50s, was discovered at the luxury Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey.

Surrey Police have now charged James Cartwright, 60, with murder amid their investigation.

He was also charged with controlling and coercive behaviour after the body was found a week ago.

The woman who died has not yet been named and the results of the post-mortem have not been released.

It comes after cops responded to calls from the Surrey hotel at 8.43am on Sunday April 14.

Officers were alerted by the ambulance service following the grim find.

A spokesperson from the force said: "A 60-year-old man has been charged in connection with the ongoing murder investigation in Bagshot.

"James Cartwright, of West Street in Axminster, was charged with murder and controlling and coercive behaviour after being arrested on Friday, 19 April.

"He has been remanded in police custody to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court on April 22."

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Debbie Birch said previously: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

“The investigation is in the early stages and a specialist team of officers are working around the clock to follow up enquiries.”

The five-star hotel describes itself as "Surrey’s most luxurious spa and hotel retreat" and has 124 rooms and sits on 120 acres of parkland.

It also hosts the RFU's Centre of Athletic Development and as an indoor training venue for the national squad.
