Dr. Katrina Warren (@drkatrinawarren) weighed in on dealing with the four-legged friend in a viral video on TikTok.

She alluded to their activity levels, saying they may be too high for some.

The vet also touched base on their upkeep, pointing out their tendency to shed fur.

She said despite the behavioral and grooming concerns, the dogs are still her preferred breed.

Dr. Warren specifically called out border collies, noting their pros and cons.

She called the dogs her "favorite breed."

"Border collies are super cute but they are definitely not the dog for everyone," she said.

"They are herding breed, which means they are very active and they need an active family as they require a lot of exercise to keep them happy."

She said that despite their potentially overwhelming behavioral patterns, they are quite intelligent.

However, she also said that when it comes to keeping them looking their best — it may pose a challenge for some.

"On the downside that coat does shed a lot of hair and they do require a lot of grooming," she added.

She added that the dogs need activities to do on a daily basis, otherwise they may turn to unsavory coping mechanisms.

"Otherwise, they can get bored which can result in behaviors such as chewing and digging," she said.

DOG LOVERS WEIGH IN

Several animal lovers chimed in on the verdict in the comment section of the viral video.

Some said their own border collies don't seem to exhibit the actions she described.

"My border collie is very clever, but she’s so lazy haha," one wrote.

"Our border collie is unemployed and he likes it that way," another chimed in.

"I’ve had border collies for 25 years because of Dr. Harry," a third commented.

"My latest one is so lazy and loves nothing more than hanging out with family."

"I have two border collies and I would say that my two are lazy. They are happy to lay around all day," another said.

Others agreed with Dr. Warren's verdict on border collies and their behavior.

"My neighbor has a border collie and he never gets walked so he just barks constantly," one said.

"Having owned five I highly recommend this breed if you have the time and energy for them, I wouldn’t have any other dog," another wrote.

"And their fur ends up everywhere," yet another added. "Always taking a piece out of my food lol and don’t forget the lint rollers."
