I tested three plumping lip gloss products and one gets a five star review

IT is a product I thought would stay firmly in my teen memories. But like so many other Nineties trends, plumping lip gloss is back.
So, has it got better over the decades? I put three to the test.
BUDGET: NYX Professional Makeup Duck Plump lip plumping gloss (£10.50 for 7ml, boots.com): I’d never tried a plumping gloss that used ginger as the catalyst before – and unfortunately after this, I don’t think I ever will again.
It’s so intense that as soon as I applied it, I ended up in a coughing fit not too dissimilar to the times I’ve attempted to take a ginger shot.
I am bad with anything spicy, so if you’re the same, please don’t let it get on your tongue.
That aside, the gloss is nice and thick, without being gloopy, and it stays put for ages, and I did notice a slight plumping action. Not for the faint-hearted.

MID-RANGE: IL MAKIAGE Uncensored lip plumping gloss, (£31 for 7ml, ilmakiage.com/uk): This is the first new-gen lip plumper I tried, and I didn’t realise it was a plumping gloss at the time. Without a doubt, it works.
The tingly is intense, and it lasts longer than with any other plumping product I’ve tried, but it wasn’t painful and I didn’t feel the need to wipe it off.
The results last the longest out of every product tested, and there’s a really wide range of colours.
Plus, despite the minty flavour, it doesn’t dry out my lips. Five stars from me.

LUXURY: STILA Plumping lip glaze (£20 for 3.5ml, stila.co.uk): On first swipe, I thought this was going to be my favourite of the three.
I love the brush applicator. It gives you more control than a doe-foot so you can tailor how much gloss you apply and where it goes.
It claims to offer a “tiny tingle that gently plumps and hydrates,” but sadly, despite a faint tightening sensation, I didn’t notice any plumping benefits at all.
It’s a really lovely lip gloss, available in several shades and with a mint flavour, but if you’re specifically looking for something that plumps, sadly this isn’t it.

HANDS up if you want hair like Beyonce?
Well, the good news is she has just launched haircare line, Cecred, and using the same products as the singer is probably as good as you’ll get without a team of top stylists on hand!
My favourite from the seven-strong line-up is her Reconstructing Treatment Mask, £21, which you can get now at cecred.com.
