MASTERCHEF viewers have accused a contestant of serving up a "bowl of sick" in the quarter finals.

Budding cook Tat had hoped to impress the judges with her French onion soup and beef short rib and roquefort sandwich.

But after delivering her dish to Gregg Wallace, John Torode and guest judge - food writer Leyla Kazim - things quickly went downhill.

Tat, 30, had failed to ensure all of the flour in her soup had dissolved, which left it thick and lumpy.

Unimpressed, John and Gregg even spooned lumps out of the bowl to show the mortified contestant.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans were quick to share their thoughts.

One wrote: "That French onion soup doesn’t look too appetising! Looks like a bowl of sick!"

Another added: "French onion soup should be a little runny!"

And a third said: "I fear Tat is going home!"

Tat was joined by five other quarter finalists in the latest episode of MasterChef, which aired on BBC1 on Friday.

The contestants were asked to make a plate of food for someone who is "feeling a little under the weather or in need of a pick me up".

Tat, an archeologist from Sunderland, drew upon her French heritage for her dish.

She made the French onion soup before serving up her toasted sandwich, which had been fried in beef dripping, on the side.

The judges were then told to dip the sandwich in the soup to eat it.

Leyla enjoyed the French onion soup and sandwich combo, telling Tat: "The two together is very comforting and also restorative."

But John said: "For me, French onion soup is just onions, stock, a good amount of pepper and here you've tried to thicken it with flour.

"I've got lumps of flour in here, which is a real shame, and I just feel it's a bit too thick. It's becoming more like onion gravy."

Gregg, meanwhile, described Tat's sandwich as "great", although he also added: "It's a shame there's bit of flour floating around in your soup.

"They shouldn't be there."

Tat looked downcast after receiving her negative feedback.

She told the cameras: "I am a bit disappointed there were bits of flour still in the soup. I thought I'd got them all, but clearly they multiplied."

Unfortunately, Tat was among three contestants who were sent home from the competition at the end of the episode.
