A detective chief inspector who allegedly had a sexual relationship with a vulnerable junior officer asked her if she was having an affair when she broke it off, a court heard.

Detective Chief Inspector David 'Will' Rolls, 46, confronted the woman at work after she deleted his number from her phone.

He told the junior officer there was a rumour she was having an affair with another senior officer.

A court heard he said: 'I thought you'd replaced me. I thought there was someone else because you deleted my number.'

The junior officer told the jury said: 'I said: 'No.'

She said she had deleted his number because she wanted to end the relationship with the senior officer.

Rolls, who is married with two children, is accused of using his senior position in Sussex Police to take advantage of the vulnerable female officer between January 2016 to March 2018.

Rolls, who has since resigned as detective chief inspector, has denied the charge and is on trial at Lewes Crown Court charged with misconduct in a public office.

The court heard the pair, who worked in the same force, met while working in Sussex Police in July 2016.

They struck up a friendship and the senior detective began sending the junior officer a series of 'flirty texts'.

Although he knew the married officer had suffered mental health problems, he allegedly became increasingly close eventually asking her to send him intimate pictures.

She told the court she felt 'uncomfortable' with his demands, but sent naked photos of herself.

In return he showed her a photograph of himself on his phone where he is sitting naked in an intimate pose.

The court heard their relationship continued and the senior officer began to visit the woman at her home while on duty.

His visits became more and more sexual, the court heard, and he eventually asked her to perform a sexual act on him, which she did.

The pair later went on to have sex on the floor of her home with the senior officer allegedly filming or taking photos of the act on his mobile phone.

Later DCI Rolls allegedly told the woman she must keep their relationship 'a secret' or he'd lose his job.

The woman, who was married but is now divorced, said that after she had sex with the senior officer she felt 'guilty'.

Today the jury was told the junior officer decided to break off the relationship and deleted his number.

In a police interview played to court she said Rolls accosted her at work and said there was a rumour she was having an affair with her line manager.

The woman, who was married, said: 'He said: 'I thought you'd replaced me.' I said: 'No.'

'He said: 'I thought there was someone else, because you deleted my number.'

Asked why she had deleted the chief inspector's number she said: 'I was feeling really guilty about what had happened. I didn't want it to continue. I'd had enough.

'The last incident was what happened in the front room and I thought no that can't happen.'

Earlier she told how she felt 'honoured' by the attention from the senior officer who allegedly told her she was 'sexy, attractive and amazing'

She said: 'This is Will Rolls - he's an inspector, you know. It felt amazing.'

But she said she felt 'uncomfortable' when DCI Rolls began asking her to send him intimate photos.

She told the court she sent a photo of herself wearing white pants and another of her lying in a bath with the bubbles concealing her nudity.

But she said he wanted to see more and more graphic photos so she eventually relented and sent photos of herself.

She said: 'I felt like I had to keep sending inappropriate ones and so I did and then I remember when he was coming round [to her house] and he showed me a picture of him online somewhere of him naked.'

The court heard on one occasion Rolls showed her a 10-second video of himself performing a sex act on himself in his bathroom.

She said she told him the video turned her on because she didn't want to lose him as a friend.

The woman told the court she consented to the sexual activity because she wanted to please the senior officer.

After she broke off the relationship in November 2017 she said she had little contact with DCI Rolls.

The court heard the junior officer's husband later found three images of her naked on an old mobile phone.

He confronted her and demanded to know who she had sent the photos to.

Her husband also threatened to report the 'sexual abuse' if she didn't agree to his divorce terms, the court heard.

The trial continues.
