DAN Osborne's Dubai getaway with son Teddy has turned into a wash out as the city is battered by an intense rain storm.

Freak weather in the Middle East has led to grounded flights at Dubai International Airport (DXB) as the runway is currently underwater.

Former Towie star Dan filmed the deluge from his hotel balcony as driving rain soaked the resort and lightning lit up the gloomy sky.

Doing their best to remain upbeat, the father and son joked that at least it was still warm.

The holiday could still be salvageable as the weather forecast is showing a stark improvement tomorrow with mostly sun and precipitation down at 20 percent.

Operations at DXB were suspended for 25 minutes with 21 outbound and 24 inbound flights cancelled.

Another three flights were diverted to other neighbouring airports, a spokesperson told Gulf News.

DXB is the world's busiest airport for international passenger traffic, followed by London Heathrow Airport.

Dubai Police yesterday warned of an impending storm and urged people to steer clear of beaches and valleys as they could flood.

Cops said flooding may occur due to "rains, strong winds, thunder, lightning, and sometimes hail, reducing visibility".

Dramatic video shared on social media showed flooded roads as many cars were left stranded in deep water.

One clip showed a Rolls Royce sitting still in a rushing river of water.

The man who posted the video wrote on X: "This is not what I expected in Dubai!

"My condolences to the Rolls Royce owner!"

Other videos and pictures showed flooded metro stations and the top of palm trees poking out from a flooded street.

Rain is uncommon in the United Arab Emirates, an arid Arabian Peninsula nation, although does occur periodically in the winter.

A lack of drainage on roads and in other areas - due to the irregularity of rain - are believed to have exacerbated the flooding.

Operations at DXB later recommenced after a 25-minute suspension, but the airport announced on Tuesday afternoon that it would be diverting flights in the evening.

The airport wrote on X: "We are temporarily diverting arriving flights this evening until the weather conditions improve.

"Departures will continue to operate."

Earlier, the airport said: "There is major flooding on roads leading to the airport and forecasts indicate that the unsettled weather will continue till tomorrow morning."
