China’s oil production up 2.3% in Q1, gas output adds 5.2% — statistics

China’s import of oil and gas amounted to 137.36 mln tons in Q1 (up by 0.7% year-on-year) and 32.79 mln tons (up by 22.8%)

BEIJING, April 16. /TASS/. China’s oil and gas companies increased oil and gas production by 2.3% and 5.2% in January-March year-on-year to 53.48 mln tons and 63.2 bln cubic meters, respectively, the National Bureau of Statistics of China reported.

China’s daily average of oil and gas production in March reached 593,000 tons and 700 mln cubic meters, respectively, according to the report. Oil refining by Chinese companies rose by 2.4% in Q1 to 182.46 mln tons.

China’s import of oil and gas amounted to 137.36 mln tons in Q1 (up by 0.7% year-on-year) and 32.79 mln tons (up by 22.8%).

According to the General Administration of Customs of China, Beijing increased oil imports by 11% in 2023 (to 563.99 mln tons), while gas imports rose by 9.9% (to 119.97 mln tons). Russia is the leading energy exporter to China, which purchased 107 mln tons of oil from Russia last year (up by 24%) and 8 mln tons of liquefied natural gas (up by 23%). Supplies via the Power of Siberia increased 1.5-fold to record 22.7 bln cubic meters.
