It’s been 60 years since the Mets opened Shea Stadium and Jack Fisher changed a part of baseball

Dwight Gooden isn’t the only former Mets pitcher the organization is honoring this month.

Jack Fisher, who started the first game at Shea Stadium on April 17, 1964, will be among those at Citi Field on Tuesday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the occasion — which coincided with the World’s Fair held that year in Queens.

And though Shea Stadium is gone, another part of Fisher’s legacy remains in the game.

It was prior to his start against the Pirates that the right-hander introduced a now everyday occurrence to the game.
