BOTTLES of wine can be cumbersome, tricky and heavy to fit into a suitcase if you're going away for the weekend.

But Aldi appears to have fixed that problem once and for all - with the release of a FLAT wine bottle, made in plastic.

Wendy was among the first to get her hands on the wine, and opted for a Shiraz.

She then took to TikTok to share a look at the ingenious design - produced by Chapter & Verse for Aldi - as she said: "What is going on, Aldi?

"Bottles of wine, plastic like this so you can lay them in your suitcase!

"So if any of you are going on hen do's, girls, nights out, stag do's, holidays and you wanna put some drink in your suitcase...

"You now have these bottles that are plastic and lay flat!

"How flipping clever is that? This is a Shiraz."

Wendy added that she couldn't find the Chardonnay, and thinks it may have sold out, but snapped up the red one as soon as she spotted it.

"I mean, this is just pure genius!" she concluded.

"Well done, Aldi!"

"Found these in @Aldi UK, great idea," Wendy captioned her video.

Other shoppers quickly commented on the video, with many praising Chapter and Verse for their ingenious design.

"Will fit through your letter box. Post a bottle to a friend!" one wrote.

"I think so it fits in the fridge without rolling off the shelf," another added.

"Saves the jingle of shame when the bin men collect your recycling after a party," a third commented.

"And can fit more in your cupboards!" someone else gushed.

"Selling these at the 02 last week for about £40!" another wrote.

To which Wendy replied: "£5.19 in Aldi!"

"It tastes great too!" someone else praised.

"Someone suggested you could put them on your bookcase," another laughed.

When's the best time to shop at Aldi?

WHEN it comes to shopping at Aldi, the best time to do so depends on what you want to buy.

For reduced items - when shops open

Red sticker items are rare at Aldi's 830 UK stores, but the supermarket says that none of its food goes to waste so there are some to be found - if you're quick.

A spokesman for the supermarket said: "All items are reduced to 50 per cent of the recommend sales price before stores open on their best before or use by dates."

That means you have the best chance of finding reduced food items if you go into stores as soon as it opens.

Opening times vary by shop but a majority open from 7am or 8am. You can find your nearest store's times by using the supermarket's online shop finder tool.

For Specialbuys - Thursdays and Sundays

Specialbuys are Aldi's weekly collection of items that it doesn't normally sell, which can range from pizza ovens to power tools.

New stock comes into stores every Thursday and Sunday, so naturally, these are the best days to visit for the best one-off special deals.

For an even better chance of bagging the best items, head there for your local store's opening time.

You don't have to head into stores to bag a Specialbuy, though.

They also go on sale online, usually at midnight on Thursday and Sunday, and you can pre-order them up to a week in advance.

As long as you spend at least £25, you'll get the items delivered for free.

Remember: once they're gone, they're gone, so if there's something you really want, visit as early as possible

"That is so good and so much safer," someone else wrote.

"Once drank can use for flowers or fill up with some holiday sand lol.

"So make it reusable. Or just keep to refill for next time!"

The wine comes in the UK's first, supermarket own-brand flat recycled PET wine bottle, and was released to coincide with Global Recycling Day on March 18th.

"We know shoppers are looking for greener, more sustainable products and our aim is to continue to deliver this, whilst offering great value and enhanced functionality," Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said.

"We’re pleased to be taking the next step in expanding our recyclable, eco-friendly range."

Alongside the new plastic bottles, Aldi is reducing the average bottle weight of all its still wine products by 8 per cent - a process that will be completed by 2025.
