PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is approaching rapidly.

The goal of the initiative, organized by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, is to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by ensuring that the drugs are properly disposed.

Collection sites will be set up nationwide including at the Indiana State Police Putnamville post.

The post will be collecting prescription drugs on Friday, April 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at their 1927 West U.S. 40 location in Greencastle.

They will accept unused or expired prescription medication, in both liquid and pill form.

Needles will not be accepted for disposal.
