A jilted Italian man allegedly stalked his ex-wife by disguising himself as a ghost to throw bricks at her house.

The unnamed man, 48, was caught on camera in Lecce, in Italy's southern Apulia region while wearing a white sheet as he ran up to his ex-partner's home.

Footage shows him hurling a brick at her window, which can be heard bouncing off the building before it hits the pavement as he runs off.

Local media reported that the man was subject to a restraining order and had been fitted with an anti-stalking device.

The Carabinieri later discovered that he had approached his victim eight times in just one day despite the device.

The man's behaviour had reportedly been going on for some time and his ex had reported him to both the police and publicly denounced him.

The footage was shared online by the victim's daughter, also unnamed.

She said: 'Stalked, threatened, slandered, defamed, deprived of her freedom, due to a relationship that ended by one side.'

The young woman also added: 'Justice is slow, there is little evidence of anything happening, but I don't lose hope.'

The man, who lives in Gallipoli, was arrested a few hours later on charges of stalking before being placed under house arrest.

He has now also reportedly been fitted with an electronic bracelet on top of the anti-stalking device.
