In China, 12 people died as a result of an accident involving a makeshift tourist boat, reports Xinhua.
According to local authorities, the boat capsized in Qinghuandao City in Hebei province, causing 31 people to fall into the water. 12 of them died. It was also reported that six people were missing. Xinhua reports that all of them were found alive and unharmed.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the boat, used for tours, was made by local residents and was not equipped with lifebuoys or life jackets. The owner of the boat and those who used it for tours have been detained by the police. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
