CCTV footage from one property in the Staffordshire village of Knutton at 6.30am showed fierce gales knock over the mobile home as debris was swept up into the air.

Another suspected tornado tore through the Nottingham suburb of West Bridgford at 7.30am, locals said.

Snaps showed roof tiles and fallen trees strewn across the leafy neighbourhood - with nearly every house damaged.

The Met Office said the weather this morning "had the potential for short-lived tornadoes" - but that its radars had not picked one up.
