NEW DELHI: Biju Janata Dal's (BJD) Lok Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty has officially joined the BJP on Monday, citing feeling "suffocated" in his former party.
The popular cine star commended the Narendra Modi government for its legislative achievements, such as scrapping triple talaq and enacting new criminal laws in recent years.
Welcoming Mohanty into the BJP fold, national general secretary Vinod Tawde highlighted the unity of those backing the ruling party for a prosperous India, in contrast to the opposition's attempts at consolidation.

Mohanty acknowledged the common notion that artists may not seamlessly transition into politics but affirmed his dedicated efforts.
With Bhartruhari Mahtab's recent move to BJP, Mohanty is the second sitting BJD MP to join the saffron party ahead of the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Anubhav Mohanty served as a Rajya Sabha member before securing his Lok Sabha seat in Kendrapara.
