Germany is contemplating a halt in arms exports to Israel, as stated by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during an appearance on the TV show Heute Journal, Nu.nl reports.

The decision comes following US President Joe Biden’s announcement that the United States will cease arms shipments to Israel if it continues its blockade of the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip. When asked if he supports the US government’s position, Pistorius affirmed his understanding.

Pistorius added that the decision to potentially suspend arms deliveries rests with the Chancellery and the Foreign Ministry. He emphasized the importance of Israel maintaining focus on de-escalation efforts.

In response to Biden’s statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that Israel will resist any pressure and continue its operations independently. The Israeli military assured that it possesses sufficient ammunition and weaponry for ongoing and planned missions.

Israel argues that capturing Rafah is necessary to defeat Hamas, a stance that differs from the US perspective. US National Security Adviser John Kirby criticized the destruction of Rafah, stating it is not a viable strategy.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to release a report on Israeli actions in Gaza soon. The report will evaluate Israel’s compliance with international humanitarian law and assess allegations of deliberate interference with aid distribution. Despite its critical tone, Axios reports that the report will not accuse Israel of crossing any ethical boundaries.
