The car factory in the village of Grünheide was opened in March 2022. It is the only Tesla factory in Europe, employing 11,500 people. The plant’s capacity is around 250,000 vehicles per year, with plans to increase this to 1 million. Left-wing radicals have previously attempted to halt operations at the facility.

Since Thursday, around 1,200 activists from across Europe have gathered at the factory. They have set up tents and displayed flags of Palestine and the German terrorist group RAF (“Red Army Faction”). They demand the cessation of the factory’s expansion. Hundreds of police officers, including mounted units, armed with batons and water cannons, have been deployed to protect the factory.
