China’s President Xi Jinping regards Hungary as an exemplary illustration of what relations between his country and the European Union could emulate, as reported by Bloomberg.

Xi Jinping is presently in Budapest on an official visit. He has already held discussions with Hungarian President Tamás Schütt. It is anticipated that during his meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Xi will unveil over a dozen agreements encompassing railway, automotive, and energy ventures.

The Chinese leader is advocating for European collaboration to navigate trade tensions that pose a threat to global economic recovery. He commends Hungary, a European Union member, for fostering “robust, productive, and dynamic” relations with Beijing. Xi emphasized in a column published in the Hungarian pro-government paper Magyar Nemzet that “our two nations should spearhead regional cooperation and steer relations between China and Europe in the right direction.”

Xi’s tour of European nations commenced last week, with visits to France and subsequently Serbia. This marks his inaugural visit to the continent since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hungary intends to finalize at least 16 agreements with China during President Xi Jinping’s three-day visit, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó refuted claims that Xi might travel to the southern city of Pécs to announce investments by the Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor.
