In Japan, more than 100,000 packs of sliced bread have been recalled due to the discovery of rat traces in two of them, as reported by Rzeczpospolita. This incident is uncommon given Japan’s reputation for strict sanitation standards.

The company confirmed that no illnesses have been reported from consuming the bread so far. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers,” the company stated in a press release.

Production at the Tokyo factory where the bread is made has been temporarily suspended while the investigation is ongoing. “We will enhance our quality management system to prevent such incidents from happening again,” the company announced.

Food recalls are rare in Japan. However, last year, the 7-Eleven chain recalled products and apologized after a cockroach was found in one of their rice balls. Another incident involved concerns about Kobayashi Pharmaceutical products, particularly a dietary supplement for reducing cholesterol levels. It was withdrawn from sale following reports of five deaths possibly linked to its consumption. The company disclosed that these deaths may have been associated with its products containing red yeast rice.
