Tragedy struck in Thailand’s Mab Ta Phut Industrial Estate as a massive fire engulfed a chemical storage tank, claiming the life of one individual and leaving four others injured.

The inferno, which raged for over six hours before being contained, posed a formidable challenge to firefighting efforts, with authorities anticipating an extended duration for complete extinguishment.

The blaze, originating from the Mab Ta Phut Tank Terminal company’s storage tank, sent billowing clouds of black smoke into the sky, casting a pall over the industrial landscape. Evacuation measures were swiftly enacted, with approximately 400 workers and residents relocated to temporary shelters as a precautionary measure.

Officials identified the tank’s contents as Pyrolysis gasoline, a combustible chemical blend commonly used in gasoline production. Videos and images from the scene depict the ferocity of the fire, which threatened neighboring tanks and structures within the industrial complex.

Amidst the aftermath, the Mab Ta Phut Tank Terminal company pledged a thorough investigation into the incident’s cause and vowed to implement stringent preventive measures. Expressing condolences to the affected individuals and families, the company affirmed its commitment to offering compensation and support in the wake of the tragedy.

The incident evokes chilling memories of a similar catastrophe in 2021, where the company faced repercussions following a fatal explosion and fire at one of its storage tanks. The recurrence underscores the imperative for enhanced safety protocols and vigilance within Thailand’s industrial sector, as stakeholders strive to avert future tragedies and safeguard lives and livelihoods.
