As anticipation builds for the Ice Hockey World Championship, robust security preparations are underway, with 1200 policemen slated to oversee each game day.

Joint efforts spearheaded by Deputy Police President Tomáš Lerch and Prague Police Director Petr Matějček ensure comprehensive coverage, extending even to concurrent events like football matches and music concerts in Prague.

During a press conference featuring key figures including Moravian-Silesian Director Tomáš Kužel and President of the WC Organizing Committee Petr Bříza, details of the security arrangements were outlined. Lerch emphasized the extensive planning and exercises conducted at both Prague and Ostrava arenas to uphold safety standards. Measures include defining permissible items for fans and combatting ticket fraud.

The deployment of 1200 policemen per game day, with 700 in Prague and 500 in Ostrava, underscores the scale of security operations. Early implementation of measures, starting Wednesday prior to the championship kickoff on May 10, aims to preempt any potential risks. Collaboration between regional directorates and specialized police units ensures a synchronized approach across key locations, with heightened patrols at stadiums, transportation hubs, and airports.

In Ostrava, cooperation with Slovak security authorities adds an extra layer of vigilance, encompassing checks on fan transit between Czech Republic and Slovakia via bus and train connections. The collective efforts signal a commitment to safeguarding both spectators and the integrity of the championship, reinforcing public confidence in the event’s security protocols.
