Finnish legislators have taken measures to restrict political strikes and work stoppages in support of such actions, reports Yle. Now, the maximum duration of political protest actions will be limited to 24 hours, and other labor dispute measures will not exceed two weeks.

107 lawmakers voted for the law, while 57 opposed it. Finnish unions have already resorted to several work stoppages in protest against government reforms in the labor market, including reductions in benefits and changes in working conditions.

According to the ruling coalition, these reforms are necessary to curb the growth of the national debt and create 100,000 new jobs. In February of this year, strikes in Finland affected both local and long-distance transportation, as well as the paper industry and trade.
