At least 17 tornadoes struck overnight across Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, and South Dakota. Barnsdall, Oklahoma, suffered severe damage, with one fatality reported and numerous injuries, Krso reported.

The town’s mayor, Johnny Kelley, described the devastation as “significant,” noting multiple leveled homes and a destroyed nursing home. Rescue efforts are underway, with several people still unaccounted for.

The NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center issued high-risk alerts for multiple states, with the tornado threat shifting towards the Ohio Valley and southern Great Lakes. Kentucky’s governor urged residents to prepare for potentially significant tornadoes and other severe weather hazards.
