The traffic in the Bosporus Strait came to a halt after a ship ran aground while en route from Ukraine to Egypt. On Tuesday, May 7th, the cargo ship ALEXIS got stuck due to engine failure. It was traveling from Ukraine to Egypt, as reported by CNN Turk.

According to the information provided by the Turkish Coast Guard, the 229-meter-long vessel ran aground in front of the Haydarpaşa Breakwater in Istanbul due to engine malfunction.

Traffic in the Bosporus was temporarily suspended in both directions. Tugboats, rescue boats, and specialist divers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Earlier reports suggested that Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey might begin demining the Black Sea in the summer. Demining would occur within the framework of NATO, as the so-called regional responsibility principle was agreed upon at the Vilnius Summit.
