Yesterday, Mexican police discovered the bodies of three individuals in a well shaft on a beach in the state of Baja California. Prosecutors explained that there is a “high probability” that the bodies found in the shaft are the remains of three missing foreigners. The surfers were shot in the head, BBC reports.

Law enforcement officials note that the bodies are “at an advanced stage of decomposition,” so additional expertise will be required for their identification.

In addition, investigators found a fourth body nearby. This is presumably the body of a local farmer, on whose property a burnt-out vehicle of the murdered tourists was found. Mexican police are currently working in collaboration with the FBI and the Australian Embassy. Three suspects in the murder have already been arrested. Investigators found several bullet casings at the crime scene.

Australians Jake and Callum Robinson, along with their friend from the USA, Jack Road, agreed to meet in Mexico to surf together near the popular tourist city of Ensenada. However, since April 27, when the men were already in Mexico, no one has seen them.
