The European Commission is nearing the completion of the Article 7 procedure against Poland, initiated in 2017 due to reforms of the Constitutional Tribunal, Supreme Court, and National Council of the Judiciary.

According to the correspondent of RMF FM from Brussels, the Commission has announced that Poland no longer poses a systemic threat to the rule of law.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that after over six years of procedure, it is time to conclude it, opening a new chapter for Poland. Minister for European Affairs Adam Szłapka indicated that the decisive moment will be the meeting of EU ministers for European affairs on May 21, who are to conclude the Article 7 procedure upon the Commission’s request.

Szłapka emphasized that Poland has taken legislative and non-legislative actions to restore the rule of law, including enacting new laws regarding the National Council of the Judiciary and the Constitutional Tribunal, as well as preparing projects concerning the separation of the functions of the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice.
