Nathan Wade, the former Fulton County special prosecutor involved in the election interference case against former President Donald Trump, spoke out for the first time since resigning due to a public disqualification battle over his relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis, ABC News reported.

Wade resigned from the case following a judge’s ruling, conceding regrets about the relationship but defending the integrity of the case against Trump and others moving forward.

Wade’s resignation came after Judge Scott McAfee declined to disqualify Willis outright but ruled that either she or Wade must step aside due to a “significant appearance of impropriety” stemming from their romantic relationship during the case. Trump and other defendants have sought an appeal of the ruling, aiming for the removal of Willis as well.

Willis and Wade testified that their relationship began in early 2022 and ended in the summer of 2023, after Wade was hired for the case in November 2021. Despite acknowledging that they could have paused the relationship until after the case, Wade admitted that their strong feelings complicated matters, leading to actions that he believes are not the public’s concern.
