For the past few days, heavy rains have been pouring in the southern part of Brazil, causing cities here to drown in dirty water due to the flooding, according to local media.

The country’s authorities have officially reported at least 58 deaths, with 67 people still listed as missing. Eduardo Leite, the governor of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, described this flood as the “most terrifying disaster” in the region’s history. Nearly five thousand homes have been submerged, and numerous bridges have suffered serious damage.

According to the Brazilian Geological Service, the water level currently exceeds the level of historical flooding that occurred in southern Brazil in 1941. In some cities, the water level has reached the highest point since observations began almost 150 years ago.

It is noted that more than 100 towns have been affected in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, including the capital, Porto Alegre.
