Donald Trump considering raising the demand for NATO members’ military spending from 2% to 3% of GDP if he returns to power, The Times reported.

The former president’s potential shift in stance comes after discussions with President Duda of Poland, who advocates for a significant boost in defense spending across the alliance.

During Trump’s presidency, he consistently pressured NATO members to meet the 2% spending target, threatening withdrawal from the alliance as leverage. Despite considerable increases, one-third of members still fall short of the target, with only Poland, the US, and Greece exceeding 3%.

Trump’s recent discussions suggest a potential escalation in his demands, posing concerns for European allies wary of heightened pressure and potential consequences.
