Patrick Beverley’s ugly fan incident escalated with ‘Cancun’ taunt

More details have come to light about what happened before Bucks guard Patrick Beverley hurled a basketball at a Pacers fan.

The Pacers defeated the Bucks 120-98 to send Milwaukee packing in Game 6 of their first round NBA playoff series.

In the final minutes of the game, the Bucks were getting blown out and huddling up.

According to The Athletic, a fan near the Bucks’ bench yelled, “Cancun on three!”

There were “other obscenities” involved as well, the report said.

This is a longstanding reference to where NBA players are said to go on vacation after they get eliminated from the postseason.

Beverley threw the ball into the stands and seemingly struck the wrong target when he hit a female Pacers fan with the ball.

He then got the ball back and hurled it into the stands again.

It would not be Beverley’s final incident of the evening.

During postgame media availability, he had a tense interaction with ESPN producer Malinda Adams after she attempted to ask a question.

“Do you subscribe to my pod?” Beverley asked the ESPN employee.

When Adams said that she did not, Beverley responded, “Well you can’t interview me then. No disrespect.”

CBS writer Jack Maloney noted that this has been a regular policy of Beverley’s with regards to reporters during his time in Milwaukee.

Adams later said that Beverley had reached out and apologized.

“I want to thank everyone for their kind words and support. I am humbled. Patrick Beverley just called me and apologized. I appreciate it and accept it. The Bucks also reached out to apologize. I’ve been in news for over 40 years and kindness and grace always win,” Adams wrote on X on Friday morning.
