Early Friday morning, May 3, on X, formerly Twitter, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) doubled down on her push to oust Rep. Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) as House speaker.

The far-right MAGA congresswoman tweeted, "Is Mike Johnson going to make a deal with House Democrats to save the very Speakership House Republicans gave him??? Now we know if he remains Speaker with their help, he's fully compromised. Are my Republican colleagues going to allow this? He's not our Speaker."

If the "motion to vacate" that Greene introduced against Johnson comes up for a full House vote, it is entirely possible that he will maintain his speakership with the help of both Republicans and Democrats. Everyone from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to prominent Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-California) has come out against ousting Johnson.

Conservative MSNBC host and former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele is vehemently critical of Greene's push in a May 2 column for MSNBC's website — arguing that Greene "doesn't care about the Republican majority" in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"If she did," Steele emphasizes, "she would've listened to nearly every one of her Republican colleagues and other top Republican officials who urged her not to take this path. The lack of party unity could put the Republican majority in jeopardy."

Politico's Rachel Bade reported that when Greene met with Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Whatley on April 30, he said that her push to oust Johnson is "not helpful."

But the following day, Greene told reporters that she still plans to force a vote on ousting Johnson.

"While Greene insists she's tilting at the 'motion to vacate' windmill out of concern for her party and the MAGA agenda, even former President Donald Trump urged her to back off," explains Steele, a Never Trump conservative who is rooting for President Joe Biden in the 2024 election. "In a joint appearance with Johnson less than a month ago, Trump told the media that 'I stand with the speaker' and urged his critics to focus on 'much bigger problems.'"

Steele continues, "If that isn't enough, Greene's motion doesn't even meet her own standards for forcing legislation to the floor, because it isn't supported by a majority of her Republican colleagues."
