IT'S no secret that buying a home is pretty expensive, but when one couple managed to bag their first home at the age of 22 they didn't realise just how much more they'd have to cough up to do it up.

Anya Clements and her partner forked out to be able to buy their pad at such a young age back in July.

The couple have already decorated a few of the rooms "from scratch" but there's still a long way to go until it feels like home.

"We wanted to get this whole house renovation done in under a year and in doing so we started off with the easy options," Anya explained in a viral social media clip.

Starting with the bedrooms, the pair got to work in transforming the outdated appearance into something much more modern.

In one of the bedrooms they opted for stunning green wall panelling and a neutral coloured carpet, which ended up looking super trendy.

"Bedrooms are the cheapest and easiest things to decorate so we did those first and then moved on to the harder things," she explained.

So far, the duo have managed to stick to a pretty strict budget for their renovation - mostly by taking on the work themselves.

But now they've taken to TikTok to ask total strangers for a helping hand.

With a huge downstairs loo, garden and the rest of the outside of the house still needing work, Anya begged TikTok users to interact with her videos in a bid to get the cash needed to finish the renovation.

Showing off the current garden set up, which currently features lush flowerbeds and a cute but old concrete slabs, she said she's been quoted £15,000 to rip it all out and get the garden of her dreams.

Something much more sleek and modern would be more ideal for the young homeowner, who went on to show a picture of her dream outdoor space, complete with lighting and an entirely posh patio.

It's the same story with the bathroom that's yet to be revamped - doing it without any professional help would cost a fortune.

"So you're probably wondering how I'm going to get £30,00 in four months," Anya said at the end of the video.

The homeowner then revealed that she's worked out it's entirely possible thanks to "TikTok's new creativity program."

"I've worked out I'm going to need 60 million views to get £30,000, so if you guys could help me by following me or even liking this video then I promise you I am going to deliver and show you the renovation," Anya said.

After sharing her plan on TikTok people had mixed reactions to her plan, but mostly they were shocked by her garden goals.

One commented: "Everyone's garden looks like the one you've been quoted. I love the one you have. Save £15k girl!"

A second agreed the garden didn't need a total revamp, they said: "Don't touch the garden! It's great."

"Definitely prioritise the bathroom, the garden is beautiful," another wrote.

Meanwhile, others were amazed at the size of the bathroom and couldn't wait to see the transforamtion.

"The bathroom is massive, what a dream, you can do so much with it," one said.

Who is eligible for the First Home Scheme?

ONLY first-time buyers can purchase a home under the First Home scheme and it's not available in Wales or Scotland.

As the scheme is aimed at helping buyers on lower incomes get on the property ladder, you won’t be eligible if your combined household income is over £80,000, or £90,000 if you live in London.

Those who can afford to buy one of the homes without a mortgage will not qualify for the help.

Buyers must use a mortgage for at least 50% of the price of the discounted home.

However, further conditions can be set by local councils so the eligibility criteria may vary depending on where you're looking to buy.

For example, some authorities may give key workers first dibs.

But after the first three months of the homes going on sale, extra conditions set by the local authority will be removed for any First Homes which haven’t been sold or reserved.
