Earlier this week, New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan found defendant Donald Trump in criminal contempt of court for nine violations of the gag order imposed on him in March.

The judge threatened jail time if Trump continues to violate the order, writing, "Defendant is hereby warned that the Court will not tolerate continued willful violations of its lawful orders and that if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances, it will impose an incarceratory punishment."

While Trump was barred from slandering witnesses, jurors, court staff, and prosecutors under the gag order, the MAGA hopeful complained to reporters last week that he's not "allowed to talk" at all.

But that hasn't stopped the ex-president from talking.

NBCUniversal executive Mike Sington shared a clip of the former president speaking with reporters outside of the courtroom Thursday via X/Twitter, writing, "Trump lies again, says he’s not allowed to testify because he’s under a gag order. Attorney looks at him like 'WTF, man?'. (Video: Fox News)"

The former president said, "I’m under a gag order. I’m not allowed to testify because this judge is totally conflicted — has me under an institutional gag order. Nobody’s ever had that before, and we don’t like it, it’s not fair."

Rolling Stone notes, "While Trump is subject to a court order barring him from publicly commenting on witnesses, jurors, prosecutors, and other court staff involved in the case, he is free to testify before the jury should he and his legal team decide to do so."

The publication adds, "The former president himself said in the not-so-distant past that he plans to take the stand."
