'Criminal’s worst nightmare': Fani Willis' campaign thrives as she keeps silent on Trump

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has put into effect a bold new campaign strategy that appears to be working wonders, according to a new report.

Willis, the Georgia prosecutor spearheading her state’s election racketeering case against the former president, isn’t talking about Donald Trump.

“As she runs for a second term, the veteran prosecutor is far more likely to talk about her office’s anti-recidivism efforts and a youth mentorship program than she is the former president,” writes Atlanta Journal Constitution reporter Tamar Hallerman.

“Willis is in good position to win in both the primary and general elections.”

The Fulton County prosecutor’s campaign appears to be thriving with polls giving Willis about 80 percent of the vote against Democrat challenger Christian Wise Smith ahead of the May 21 primary, the report notes.

“She has extremely high name recognition and a well-funded campaign,” Democratic strategist Tharon Johnson reportedly said.

Rather than put the focus on Trump, the prosecutor is putting emphasis on community outreach, mentorship programs, and dropping crime rates, the reporter writes.

“I am a violent criminal’s worst nightmare,” Willis reportedly said at a recent fundraiser. “At the same time, we work tirelessly to save young people, first time offenders and those who are suffering from mental illness and addiction from being caught up in the criminal justice system.”

While the report notes Willis has angered local Republicans with her determination to prosecute Trump and his co-defendants on election interference-related charges, she remains an “overwhelming favorite.”

This prediction arrives just weeks after Willis faced “the political fight of her life” in the form of a disqualification hearing in the Trump case that put her personal life in the spotlight and challenged her professional conduct.

“While Willis is less likely to directly bring up the election case in her campaign messaging, she’s fiercely defended her reputation in the wake of the disqualification fight,” writes Hallerman.

“In one recent address, she called herself ‘the best DA this county’s ever had.’”
