The May Day demonstration in Berlin was mostly peaceful, but in some areas of the city, demonstrators set fire to at least nine cars, Welt reports.

At least nine cars were set on fire in Berlin on the night of May 2. However, according to the police’s Thursday morning report, there were no operations directly related to demonstrations and potential disturbances.

According to the police, at 3:10 a.m., six cars were on fire on the roadside near Volkspark Hasenheide. The paint on three other cars was damaged. Emergency services were dispatched after midnight to a car fire on Kiehlufer Street in Neukölln – one car was damaged. Around 1:30 a.m. on Altenhoferstrasse in the Alt-Hohenschönhausen district, a car was burned, and another car was damaged by fire. In the Berlin-Pankow area, around 2:50 a.m., two cars parked side by side on Hans-Ayßler-Strasse were damaged, one of which caught fire.

Participants in the “revolutionary May Day demonstration” sometimes set off fireworks. They also attacked a group of police officers participating in the demonstration. Contrary to expectations, the “revolutionary May 1 demonstration” on Wednesday in Berlin was generally peaceful. There were no major clashes with the police. Officers continued to patrol on the night of May 2 to monitor peace disruptors.
