The Philippines has called upon the Chinese envoy following an episode where Philippine vessels were allegedly harassed in the South China Sea, Al Arabiya reports.

Manila voiced its protest against various aggressive actions by China, including the use of water cannons, near the Scarborough Shoal. Damage to Philippine Coast Guard and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources boats was reported.

The Philippines demanded the withdrawal of Chinese vessels from the area. China’s embassy has yet to respond.

Territorial disputes between Manila and Beijing have led to multiple collisions in recent months. The incident coincided with a Philippines-US military exercise, drawing ire from China.
