During the May Day demonstrations in Paris, more than fifty law enforcement officers were injured due to the actions of radicals, reports BFMTV.

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office announced that as a result of the events, 35 individuals were taken into custody, the majority of whom are suspected of preparing for violent acts and causing harm, possessing Category “D” weapons, and concealing their faces; four were detained directly for using force against the police. A total of 57 law enforcement officers were injured.

Overall, the demonstration in the French capital was calmer than last year, during the peak of protests against pension reform. Unions estimate the total number of participants at 50,000, while the police estimate it at 18,000.

Overall, across the country, unions estimated the number of participants at 210,000, while the Ministry of Interior put it at 121,000 people. Demonstrations in dozens of cities proceeded mainly peacefully, but in some places, radical groups took advantage of them to cause disturbances.
