Polish police have arrested a person suspected of attempting to set fire to the Nożyk Synagogue in Warsaw, reports RMF 24. According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Czesław Mroczek, the detained individual is a 16-year-old Polish citizen.

The official indicated that the arrest was made in cooperation with the country’s Internal Security Agency. According to the Israeli ambassador to Poland, someone threw a bottle containing an incendiary mixture towards the building.

At the same time, Remigiusz Sosnowski, a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Community in Warsaw, stated that in addition to the facade, which was stained with paint, some of the flammable liquid landed on a window with a wooden frame, causing it to ignite slightly.

“If it had landed 15 centimeters to the left, the mixture could have entered the building, where the library is located,” said Poland’s Chief Rabbi, Michael Schudrich.
