During the night of May 1, a section of a highway collapsed in the Chinese province of Guangdong, resulting in the deaths of 36 people and leaving another 30 hospitalized, according to Xinhua.

It is reported that as of the morning of May 2, the death toll from the collapse has risen to 36 people. However, the number of injured has remained unchanged, with 30 people still hospitalized, their condition stable and their lives not in danger.

In total, 23 vehicles have been found to have fallen down the steep mountain slope due to the collapse of the road section. Rescue efforts are ongoing to deal with the aftermath.
