President Jean Pierre Antelo of the Cainco recently criticized the Bolivian government’s policies, stating that the country’s crisis is spiraling out of control, Los Tiempos reported. The criticism comes amidst the promulgation of Supreme Decree 5154 on May 1st, marking Labor Day.

The decree stipulates a 3% increase in the basic salary for the private sector, to be negotiated between employers and employees. Additionally, it sets the National Minimum Wage at Bs 2,500, a 5.85% hike agreed upon by the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) and the government.

Implementation of the wage increase and minimum salary is retroactive from January 1, 2024, and must be enacted by May 31 of the current year. The decree mandates enforcement and supervision by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security.
