Yaroslav Vasinskyi, a 24-year-old Ukrainian, has been sentenced to 13 years and seven months in prison for orchestrating over 2,500 ransomware attacks, demanding more than $700 million in ransom payments, Reuters reported.

Vasinskyi utilized the Sodinokibi/REvil ransomware variant, exposing victims’ data publicly when they refused to pay. One notable attack was against Florida software provider Kaseya in July 2021, where Vasinskyi and accomplices targeted as many as 1,500 customers, encrypting their data and causing widespread disruption.

The FBI, along with international partners, collaborated closely to bring Vasinskyi to justice, highlighting the global effort to combat cybercrime. Vasinskyi, extradited from Poland to the United States, pleaded guilty to multiple charges including conspiracy to commit fraud, damage to protected computers, and money laundering.
