South Korea s contemplating joining forces with the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia in a collaborative effort aimed at sharing cutting-edge military technologies, as reported by AP.

South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik revealed this potential move, indicating discussions took place during bilateral meetings with Australian defense and foreign ministers in Melbourne.

The initiative, known as the AUKUS partnership, initially formed to equip Australia with a fleet of U.S. nuclear-powered submarines to counter China’s expanding military influence. Now, the scope of cooperation could extend to a broader array of security technologies such as artificial intelligence, electronic warfare and hypersonic systems under the AUKUS Pillar 2 framework.

Shin expressed South Korea’s enthusiasm for the invitation to join the AUKUS partnership, emphasizing the country’s commitment to leveraging its defense science and technology capabilities to bolster regional peace and stability.
