Anne Hathaway visited The Kelly Clarkson Show to show off her musical chops ahead of the premiere of her pop star romance, The Idea of You.
The stars went viral in 2022 when Hathaway famously beat Kelly Clarkson at her own game on the show. This time, however, the stars were playing a friendly game of “Pop Pop Quiz.” Everything was going well until the competition started to heat up.
“Oh no, it’s happening again,” Hathaway teased as she began beating Clarkson once again.
It looks like the pressure got to Clarkson as she mixed up another one of her famous songs for a Christina Aguilera tune.
After game host Amber Ruffin cited the lyrics from Clarkson’s single “Stronger,” the pop star beat Hathaway to the buzzer to guess: “That’s Christina Aguilera!”
Clarkson later explained her thinking behind the mix-up.
“So, you’ll notice, America, if you know my catalogue at all — ’cause I don’t — I thought I was singing Christina Aguilera’s song ‘Fighter,’ and I was singing mine,” she said. “‘Stronger.'”
She added, “It’s one of those days. Anyway, Anne Hathaway is my kryptonite. It’s fine.”
Hathaway famously out-did Clarkson on her own show during a game of “Sing That Name That Tune,” in which the stars competed to guess a song title by singing the tune first.
Somehow, Hathaway successfully guessed the opening beat to “Since U Been Gone” and belted out the chorus, beating Clarkson to the punch. Clarkson threw herself to the ground in shame.
“How did you know it from just that?” Clarkson later asked Hathaway. “She knew it from boom-boom-boom-boom-boom!”
The movie star certainly judged her for not recognizing one of her own tunes, especially considering it’s one of her most famous.
“Kelly Clarkson, if you do not understand how much we all love that song — everybody here knew it!” Hathaway responded.
Even Clarkson had to admit at the time, the loss was pretty “embarrassing.”
